Donations & Fundraising

The work of GIST Cancer UK is supported by donations from its supporters.

We very much appreciate the efforts of all our supporters and fundraisers. The money you raise helps us to continue to support GIST patients and fund research into GIST cancer. The charity is run by volunteers, and receives no government funding.

GIST Cancer Awareness Day Appeal!

As many of you will be aware, 13th July is "GIST Awareness Day" in the International Calendar.

This is a day to raise awareness that rare GIST Cancer exists and that our patients need support and research for improved treatments and a ultimately a cure.

GIST patient advocacy groups all over the world use this day to raise awareness of GIST Cancer.

This year we have chosen to launch GIST Cancer UK's Awareness day appeal in the hope that everyone will spread the word and find all possible ways to help us raise funds for more patient support and research and to address the dent that COVID-19 has put in our income.

Here are some of the research projects we are already funding, and there are more in the pipeline...

More information about our appeal can be found via this link.

On behalf of the GIST Cancer UK Trustees -

Thank you for supporting our campaign and for your help in spreading the word!

Employer & Business Led Funding

You may be able to double or even triple the impact of the funds you have raised with matching donations from your employer.

Please talk to your human resources department to find out if your company will match your donations made to GIST Cancer UK.

Payroll giving enables employees to give to a charity straight from their gross salary (before tax is deducted). The scheme allows employees to give more for less as the tax that would normally be paid to the government can be gifted to the charity too. It allows employers to contribute to sustainable corporate social responsibility initiatives.

How does it work?
• The individual (who must be on PAYE) decides on the amount and the charity/charities that should receive it and informs their payroll department.
• The employer must have set up a relationship with a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). PGAs are registered charities, regulated by HMRC, who receive the donations and transfer donations from employers to charities.
• The majority of employers who offer Payroll Giving do so alongside Pennies from Heaven as they want to make sure they offer all staff a way to donate through pay. PFH donations are less than a pound so particularly appeal to part time or lower paid workers. Traditional Payroll Giving schemes are more popular with people employed in more senior positions and those on higher salaries.
Further details are available here

or

you can sign up with organisations such as Charities Trust www,charitiestrust.org.uk or Charitable Giving www.charitablegiving.co.uk and select GIST Cancer UK as your charity of choice.

Pennies from Heaven (PFH) is the UK's largest micro giving scheme for employees and pensioners. Quite simply employees / pensioners sign up once and from then on every payslip is rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies donated to charity e,g. if net pay was £850.34 then 34p would be donated.

How does it work?
• The most you can ever give is 99p every time you are paid, the taxman will add 25% at no cost to the donor or employer.
• Each employer chooses one or more charities to which all staff and pensioners donate to.
• Every month employers send PFH the donations for distribution to the nominated charities
• PFH is particularly suitable for larger employers (between 700 & 1,000 staff)
• Employers can also donate to the chosen charities on a Matched Giving Basis
• PFH allows employers to bring their team together to achieve a common goal

Pennies – the Digital Charity Box, facilitates charity donations when paying by card online or face-to-face. The company e.g. a retailer, restaurant or pub chain picks a charity and offers customers the option of rounding or topping up their bill when paying electronically.

How does it work?
• Retailers must have the potential to raise a minimum of £10k per annum, so we are looking for a business with several outlets and/or a large on-line shop.
• Pennies works in the background and there are no set-up or ongoing costs.
• The customer is presented with a one click option asking if they wish to donate on the card machine so staff don’t need to prompt.
• Many payment technology providers now offer Pennies in their products, it can also be offered in apps, as well as online and in-store.
